When Product Launches Go Bad
Filed Under (Traffic Building, Viral Traffic) by Traffic Guru on 22-10-2009
As you know in the Internet marketing space there constantly seem to be new product launches going down.
And there seem to be massive product launches at least once a month and sometimes two to three per month.
You know the ones I’m talking about…where the 5, 10, or even 50 marketing guru e-mail list you’re subscribed to are all sending e-mails about the exact same product launch.
It’s the type of market domination and capturing the entire attention of your market at a specific moment in time which Frank Kern talks about.
StomperNet’s F5 launch recently went down and I had a chance to take a look at some of the free videos which were very good. I got some good golden nuggets that I can apply to the work I’m doing.
So that’s always good when you get quality value out of free videos and it blows a hole in the common belief “anything free is obviously worthless”.
One of the best things good launches do well is show proof a product works. This proof has 2 levels:
- the guru made it work and
- the students who have the full system also made it work.
Presumably, these were regular people before they had the system.
In talking with my friend one of the things I noticed about his launch was very little proof.
He showed proof of him doing it which is that top level of proof…that it works for the guru.
But there was no proof of students using the system and getting good results. And even the proof he had was problematic because when you go to reverse engineer and check the results he got the default way to check them didn’t work. You had to use a drop-down arrow to get the results so people looking at the basics believed it was BS.
Also there weren’t any videos nor a four to six week build up like is becoming very common in the Internet marketing space.
It is a very crowded space but when you have a good valuable product, establish your credibility by showing the results you’ve gotten and your friends have gotten, and demonstrate yourself using the product successfully and have beta testers who used it successfully you can make money.
But since the competition is so high you have to rise above. The bar is set very high for releasing products into this space.
So that’s another big issue I saw with this launch.
He did not come anywhere near the level of what is becoming standard in the Internet marketing space.
And after talking with my friend it is well underperforming his expectations. So it’s back to the drawing board.
Basically you should take a look at what is the standard in your industry and see how you can improve on that, how you can add more value, how you can differentiate yourself in a positive way which gets the market’s attention and makes them want to do business with you.
Whatever you do don’t fall below what is standard in the market. I know this seems like common sense but it’s not common practice because often times I see businesses doing just this…falling below what’s standard in their market.
Leave comments about any failed or successful product launches you’ve seen or actually done in your business. I look forward to learning from you just as much as I’m able to teach you.
