Web Hosting Part 3
Filed Under (Tips) by admin on 04-01-2010
I’ve told you about my [favorite web host who I've been with the longest] in part 1 of the series. I’ve told you about the [other host I love] and a [host my business partner is fond of] and we host some of my domains on.
Today you may have a little bit different goal in mind. Namely, to get super high rankings in Google using your OWN mini site network. If you’ve read my post about [buying aged domains] then this applies to you. If you missed web hosting part 1 or my hosting companies part 2 get em.
Also, if you plan to use a strategy like Jack Humphrey talks about with 10 different blogs on 10 different topics to make at least $30 per day from each then you’ll want to use this strategy.
So what’s the strategy?
First you need a little background. Back in the old days when Googlebot and Yahoobot and MSNbot weren’t very sophisticated you could just buy 50 or 100 domains and throw them all on the same web hosting account. Then you could interlink them together in various combinations to give the search ranking power to your main money sites.
But then searchbot technology caught up and was able to look at domain registrar info and also IP addresses of domains.
You can see how this would be a problem. You have setup 100 domains, all interlinked in 1 way or another, that are all hosted on the same shared IP address. Googlebot can easily see this and devalues the links.
I still believe and there’s evidence to back it up that the links STILL have SOME VALUE. But why reduce their power when you don’t have to.
Various internet site host companies have come along to combat this problem with affordable rates. I have used www.seo-host.com. It is sometimes slow but is the cheapest per IP address.
DON’T use it if you plan to have MU wordpress blogs (these are blogs that allow other internet users to have a blog on your domain). It works just fine for regular blog networks and I’d recommend it for those.
I’ll be starting a plan with them in the new year for single blog installs and you can have about 10 domains per IP address and be pretty safe.
The other company I’m currently working with (in partnership with an seo guy in Florida) is seohosting.com which is owned and operated by hostgator. These guys are:
- pricier but still affordable
- have excellent support and were able to do backup installs for some sites I had
- have fast servers and can handle MU blogs
That’s it for this post and in part 4 (which maybe the last) I’ll talk about fantastico, cpanel, and whm.
Leave your comments if you’ve had good or bad experiences with other web hosts not mentioned here. Or talk about your experience with the hosts listed.
