Know What Tools You Need to Win

I just recently upgraded my desktop. The one I had before was given to me by a friend and he had bought it back in December of 2005 when it was close to the top-of-the-line model. So it was almost 4 years old and ready for retirement. I just got this new desktop at the end of September 2009 and the difference is noticeable.

As you know the old one was a dinosaur in the world of technology and it was definitely showing its age. It was so slow when I was running various programs. I have been ecstatic about the performance of my new Dell OptiPlex system.

This Dell system is one I got from Discount Electronics and it’s probably been about six months since it rolled off the assembly line. It has a 3.4 GHz Pentium 4 processor which is the highest performance precursor that Intel had before their core duo and Quad core processors were released.

It also has 3 GB of RAM so the speed is screaming fast compared to that “grandma in a Walker” which I had before. If you’re going to be in the Internet business and online marketing game you have to have the right tools and at the very least you need a lightning bolt quick computer as well as the fastest Internet connection you can possibly afford without taking food off of your own table.

To highlight just a small difference I am currently transitioning into using much more video in my business pursuits. You may have heard how powerful video is and there’s a reason infomercials have been working for 30 years.

That’s all the proof I need that video is where it’s at because obviously Americans love watching video.

So these will be mostly slideshow videos but I also have a flip HD camcorder that I need to fully use and make the $200 investment that I got it for off of Amazon worth my while.

I looked around on eBay and Amazon and that was definitely a good deal and it’s one of the best cameras you can get for $200 or under. If you’re looking for a camcorder then I highly recommend the flip HD because it’s incredibly easy to use and a bargain.

But back to my story about the video. My old trusty Tyranosaurus Rex, as I called it, could render an eight minute video in roughly 3 hours. I just rendered that very same eight minute video using Camtasia 6 on my current new OptiPlex system and it took…

All of an infernally long… 8 MINUTES.

I don’t know what exact percentage gain that is in terms of efficiency but my trusty common sense says that’s a tremendous gain. Hold on I’ll grab my calculator and do the calculations. All right,

8 minutes divided by 180 minutes = 4.4%

I’ll take a 96% gain any day of the week. And the system only cost me $180 (because I have a friend on the inside). So I’m sure you can agree that it was well worth it in the time savings and increased productivity it will allow me.

If you’re still suffering with an old computer it’s time to bite the bullet and upgrade because you’ll make far more money and be able to produce and accomplish far more in the same amount of time that you’re working than you will by having to wait for slow system.
