Local Customer Service and a Christmas Gift
Filed Under (Relationship Marketing, Traffic Building) by Traffic Guru on 09-09-2009
Local customer service in action. I was out running some errands today and after buying tickets for me and my sister to go see the movie Twilight tonight, I decided to stop on the way back home at my usual gas station.
I like this gas station and I go there often, pretty much every time I get gas, because I know all the workers there and they just flip on the gas for me. Then I pay afterwards.
Most gas stations these days are forced pre-pay which I hate because I just want to step out and start pumping my gas.
I proceeded inside to pay and noticed a sign on the door amongst many others.
It said, “It’s a windy day so please be careful because this door could fly open and injure you.”
I asked the owner lady if she was having door problems and she said “No, it’s a precautionary measure.”
So I said “It’s probably pretty smart for liability purposes to have your sign up there” and she was quick to interject she did it because she cares about her little old lady customers.
I fired back with “I see you don’t care about us young customers.” And she said “Oh, I care about little old men to.”
The thing which shocked me was she took the little extra time to go above and beyond with her customer service. I’ve never seen any other gas station do this.
Have you ever looked at your business and asked where you could interject a little bit more customer service and a little bit more personalization?
This one little touch really stood out for me and I’ll continue to do business with her for quite a long time.
The other thing I noticed on my ride home was a radio ad which caught my attention.
They were hyping a concert with the band Taproot and it was a charity event. Basically you bring one new unwrapped toy and for $9.95 you can see this all day festival.
Obviously it was good publicity for the radio station 99.5 FM, good publicity for the bands involved being part of this charitable operation because clearly with only a $10 concert fee they weren’t going to make much money, and it was good for the kids and the charity to bring in new toys.
So what kind of charitable drives or events can you and your business sponsor? What kind of events would get you some publicity?
Tell me in the comments section what kind of little personal customer service touches have worked well in your business. Also comment about any ideas you have which would generate news publicity and/or have worked well for you.
