We then paid attention to on-page optimization, like optimizing our title tags, our body copy, …

Social Traffic from the various social media sites can be a huge boon for your blog. It can also be an elusive beast to snag. One day you’re getting thousands of visitors because of a popular post and the next day nothing. So how do you iron out these kinks and get a more consistent flow of social traffic from these big communities like Digg, Facebook , Reddit, Stumbleupon and Twitter?

Check the 14 points in the article above for the answer. Also, leave your comment for things that have worked for you.

I’ve been talking over the last 6 months with my friend Bryant Jones about once a week. Sometimes more but that’s about the average.

He’s been telling me wild stories about Thailand in particular:

1. Beautiful women
2. Late nights and fun parties
3. Kicking back and enjoying a laid back lifestyle

All this time he’s kept his 2 main clients and continues to work with them without a hitch.

He was able to get a local Thai number which is very hard to do because of the way their phone extensions work.

Apparently, their phone number structure only allows for a relatively small number of combinations and they’ve got a pretty sizable population in Thailand so the number of remaining combinations free is scarce. But he did mention in passing this one resource to use to acquire one and apparently this resource lets you get local numbers in any country.

So I was definitely intrigued by this as well as some of his other tactics to get you released from your job… because I know a lot of you reading still are stuck in the cube in corporate America and greatly desire to get out of that.

One of the biggest tips he gave was to figure out how you can be a consultant to your current company. Basically you’d work out of your home for a reduced number of hours and negotiated salary while transitioning into your own company with profits and cash flow.

There’s lots of creative ways to do this while also enjoying the kind of travel you’re looking for. I’ve been wrestling with his and my schedule to get him on a live call where he can talk about some of these tips and tactics he’s been using over the last six months to live this mobile lifestyle as well as give you an opportunity to ask questions you might have specific to your situation.

I’ll email this out once the time and date are setso if you’re not yet getting the notification email you can sign up at the top right of this blog. And probably I’ll send a twitter update as well so you can follow me here.

In the meantime leave your comments with some questions you have and I’ll see about having him stop by to answer them.

Ryan Deiss in Austin TX (same place where I’m at and a huge tech hub) is doing what should be a huge website traffic course launch today. As I write this it is 11:26am and the sales page opens for you to claim your package in just over 2.5 hours from now at 2 pm central time.

This seems like a very cool package that he put together. What he did was to do a marathon interview with a Google Adwords expert. Before you start whining this guy is making his money (his biggest traffic and money) in the post 2006 Google slap world.

He has figured out how to pay 30-70% less for his google website traffic than the other advertisers in his market pay. How does he do this?

His testing indicated that he had to maximize the quality score and his click price would drop to an average of $.21. For what he does he never pays more than $.30 per click once he has his campaign optimized because he allows his visitors to pay his ad costs this way.

Break even (or profitable) paid advertising or clicks is very cool!

Apparently this course is going to cover the content and distribution network as well.

I’ve learned from Fran Kern that you can do a google search for the keywords you are targeting, click on the top 10 sites for each of those keywords and see which sites show google ads.

These are the advertisers and you could appear on their sites. The trick is to look at each of those sites and see which ones have the google ‘ad box’ at the very top of the screen or the top left so that you insure you get clicks and cheap website trafffic.

You do this because most of the time the content network you pay based on CPM. This means when your ad is shown 1000 times you get charged a certain amount. Each time that site loads counts as a ‘showing’. So if they bury the ‘ad box’ at the bottom of the page you’ll be paying for many ‘showings’ where your ad never gets seen.

That’s just lost money! You might as well as pulled the food out of your kids mouth and thrown it on the floor. Or these days it’d be like syphoning the gasoline out of your own car and spitting it on the ground.

By checking the sites to make sure your ads show at the top of the page before the website visitor has to scroll you insure that your ad gets seen and has a good chance to get clicked on which is your only goal for that ad.

I’m sure Ryan’s system will go into way greater detail than this on how you can optimize and maximize your return on investment.

Their tests even show these content network clicks CONVERT BETTER than the search clicks.

Bet you didn’t know that.

Finally, since his affiliate program is closed and I did not know this beforehand this is no affiliate review or link. I believe this course will be good for your business and so am writing about it.

I repeat, I make no money off this post about “Wholesale Traffic System” I just believe it’s a good product.

You can go to www.wholesaletrafficsystem.com/secret to get your own info and decide for yourself that it’s for you.

I’ll include an update report tomorrow on how the launch went.

With only 500 spots available to be claimed and a discounted $1997 per spot this launch will do $998,500 which is a pretty nice chunk of change. THat’ll put some gasoline in the Honda!

Until next time…

How effective is social marketing when used to increase website traffic? Blogs and online video are the most used means of social marketing accounting for 78 percent and 63 percent of the share respectively. Social media tools are becoming more valuable, say 57 percent of early adopters, 27 percent of which call social media a core element of their communications strategy. Just three percent state it has little or no value to their communications initiatives.

Oh social marketing. The golden child whose power cannot be harnessed nor can its effect be substantially understood. Or so says a report issued by the Society for New Communications Research.

The good news is that social media tools are popular, with blogs and online video being the most with 78 percent and 63 percent of marketers having used them, respectively. Close behind are social networks (56 percent) and podcasts (49 percent).

More than half of those surveyed formally measure the success of social media initiatives. Standard measurements for other online marketing tactics, like search engine ranking and website traffic, were perceived as useful for evaluating social media influence, according to the report

This week required a little bit deeper analysis. My tech guy found the rabbit hole goes a little bit deeper when it comes to the malicious code that had attacked the WordPress install of TaggZilla.

The initial hijacking was taken care of. So the traffic was no longer being siphoned off.

However, further investigation revealed that there were still hidden links showing in the eyes of Google. These guys were very clever in that they built code specifically to show Googlebot what to see. That’s why it escaped my detection for so long because it wasn’t visible to the naked eye or even in the “view code” of the page.

They were even more clever in that they built this code to show Google the basic fundamentals that Googlebot wants to see. They have hard coded and followed HTML links to a ton of V*agra and C**lis sites, changed the title of the blog post which Googlebot sees to be having V*agra or C**alis keywords in the title, and they had also strategically placed the keywords in the content of the blog post at about 2% to 4% keyword density.

So even though they have 50 to 75 links to their various sites, the title and the content of the blog post also had context related to the keywords they were targeting.

I had to start completely from scratch doing a new WordPress install. Then I re-stored the site. In other developments which will help you…

I’ll be talking to you little bit more about business credit because I’m going through a process right now to get business credit for a partnership I’m working in that’s an LLC. It’s going to be an interesting learning process.

I’ve long been resistant to using credit but almost all businesses use credit to grow. It’s an essential and vital function for your business to have access to the credit it needs to survive.

If you’re a small business owner then you know how tough business can be. In fact 80% of all businesses fail within two years of starting. Another fact that you may not know is the number one reason businesses fail and the #1 cause for 90% of those business failures is under capitalization. That’s just a fancy business term for saying that these 90% of businesses run out of money and so have to cease operations.

I’ll be telling you more about how my experiences goes and what kind of lines of credit open up over the next few months. Should be very eye-opening for me and also an excellent resource for you because what is more vital to your business than having access to cash and capital?

I have a friend outside the USA who thankfully alerts me of my 404 error pages, which I appreciate, even though I told him over the weekend he was making me scream at my own inability to be perfect.

You don’t want to be caught with your pants down when trying to present a professional site. Since my work permits me to see a great deal of websites and Internet applications, I can note common problems. This list is not about the common ones. This list is for repetitive web design practices that drive site visitors crazy because we keep driving them crazy.

My speculation is as long as there’s a user base for the latest browsers they’ll support them. But if they keep falling look out…

YouTube Will Be Next To Kiss IE6 Support Goodbye

Judging by this screenshot taken by an IE6 user who was watching some videos on YouTube, it appears the Google company will be phasing out support for the browser shortly. I don’t have Internet Explorer 6 installed on my computer, …

During the weeks of January 19-23 and February 2-6 I had the opportunity to design a process and fill 2 positions for a small company client I do work for.

I’m not a hiring manager by trade nor did I have any previous experience in human resources. All I had was my experiences as a marketer knowing psychology, how to get people’s attention in the Craigslist ad I posted, and how to begin with the end in mind.

Basically, the first thing I had to do was ask my client what kind of employee he was looking for, what the ideal qualities were, and then based on my own feel pick the person with the personality type which would fit in best at his company.

I also designed a survey using survey monkey which was a total of 20 questions. You can see the first in questions at this link:

Job applicant survey

For me it was a very eye-opening experience and I want to give some of those insights to you. Because I’ve seen what’s going on with the economy and all the fear mongering going on in the news.

But I also know there’s definitely suffering going on out there and you may be one of the ones affected and possibly even had your job axed or been laid off.

For one of the positions there were over 400 applicants to send in resumes. For the other position there were 253+ resumes which came in.

After talking with a couple people I’ve heard most hiring managers or human resource people will look for the top five resumes and then go no further.

However, for me I want to make sure the applicants really wanted to work for my client and allow them to weed themselves out. I feel this is much fairer to the applicant and to my client.

So I only look at those who completed the survey and for the first position there were 66 completed surveys and the second position there were 29 completed surveys.

I only took a quick glance at some of the resumes before the surveys came in and once I had responses to the surveys I only looked at the resumes of those candidates who look like a good fit look for the position.

I know the economy has caused great competition for the few jobs available so here are the things which stood out to me:

1. Include in your signature file your phone number and e-mail address and if you have it the link to your personal website. This can be www.yourname.com and have your resume and other relevant details a recruiter would want to see.

I got very annoyed when I had a good candidate and I had to search through e-mails attempting to find a phone number. Make it easy by including your phone number in your e-mail signature. In every e-mail client I’ve seen today all you have to do is set this up once and it will be included in every e-mail you send.

If you worry about having it going out in regular personal e-mails set up a dedicated e-mail address just for your job search.

Make it a personal e-mail address with your name in it. I saw some e-mails like JT@yahoo.com and others like SunGoddess@Hotmail.com. Needless to say I was none too impressed with these.

The best thing you can do is have an e-mail like firstname@yourname.com. This way you look like a serious business person.

2. Extra credit — include a photo in your e-mail signature. This is so important because out of all the e-mails, I received over 650 for both positions, only two candidates included a photo in the e-mail signature. I definitely called those back and one of them hadn’t even filled out the survey. That’s how important standing out is. And how powerful this photo tactic is.

This humanizes you in the eyes of the recruiter and bonds you to them giving you a far greater chance to get called back.

Remember the only two candidates who did this I called back, meaning 100% of those who included a photo got on the phone with me. I can’t guarantee it’ll be 100% effective for you but I can guarantee it’ll give you a much better shot and you’ll definitely stand out from all the other applicants.

3. In your dedicated jobseeking e-mail account turn off all spam filters so you can be 100% certain you’re going to get any return communication from potential employers you’re sending resumes to. I had a couple of candidates I called who said they had never received my e-mail so didn’t know about the survey.

4. When answering a survey or when you’re on the phone talking with a recruiter be revelatory in your answers and truthful.

5. Have a YOU attitude. It’s all about the employer and what you can do for them. It’s about the value you can bring to bear for the company and the increase in profitability hiring you instead of anyone else will bring to the company.

6. Be BOLD. You want the position and make bold statements as to the value and skills you have to bring to the table which will help the company.

7. Be super confident. Answer any questions with confidence and go in with the mindset that you are the best candidate for the position and hiring anybody else just wouldn’t make sense. You don’t have to be overbearing about it but definitely confidently answer questions.

Another neat trick is at the end of the interview ask, “What time Monday should I come in to get started?”

One of the candidates asked me this and it immediately jumped her into the top three spots for the position.

8. Extra bonus credit — record a short 30 to 60 second video for the position explaining to the recruiter what you can do for their company.

Posting this on www.yourname.com is the best solution. If you don’t have a website posted to YouTube and link to it in the e-mail you sent. Include a link in your resume Word document as well as on your cover letter as well as in the e-mail body text itself. Make sure they know recorded video to apply for this position.

None of the over 850 candidates had a video and I know this would allow you to stand out because I was looking for one thinking with that many candidates I’d have to see at least one industrious person who did this. But I did not.

I can hear you possibly whining now “But they cost money and I don’t have a camcorder.”

That kind of scarcity mindset is not what companies are looking for. Digital camcorders are so cheap these days and do a good quality job. With the lower priced cameras there’s no excuse left not to.

I saw a Flip Mino HD for sale the other day for $220. I know anyone in America if they have the desire can get their hands on $220. And the quality of video the Flip Mino HD produces is quite high especially for this lower price.

Bottom line, to get a job in this economy you have to really stand out because there’s more competition than ever for fewer spots than ever.

These tips are things I saw which stood out to me and which will definitely help you stand out to the recruiters and human resource managers you have to impress.

Happy job hunting and I look forward to any comments you have about tactics you’ve used to successfully get jobs or things you’ve done which recruiters have told you really stood out in their mind.

If you’re a highly wanted criminal you may. The FBI is getting smart and has targeted billboards where suspects are reportedly in that area and putting their pictures and description (height, weight, eye color, etc) up on them. Mostly they’re using digital billboards so they get better prices and have expanded into 40 states now.

One big-time drug dealer turned himself in after seeing his picture on a billboard. The FBI directly attributes solving 35 cases using this method which is way more than just using agents and way more cost effective.

The biggest key as it applies to your website business is…targeting. How you allocate your resources has a great impact on how much money you make. And whether you make money at all or go back to your job. This is a cool tool I’ve found to do this “billboard style” targeting.

The FBI could hire more agents, put them out in the field and go that route. They have plenty of money.

But instead they chose to leverage America. They’ve got millions of “agents” out there with eyes peeled where suspects are likely to be in the area.

So you need to apply this same technique. Where are your likely buyers “hiding”? What areas (on the net or offline) have your most likely suspects are hanging out?

Go to those places, find partners or people with trust who can reach them, and call out to them. Use targeted banners, personal emails, whatever it takes.
