If you’ve noticed weirdness with your e-mail and more importantly the lack of deliverability on your e-mails you’re not alone.

The april fools virus called the conficker worm is still causing massive problems for people and ISP’s have therefore got their spam filters cranked up to their highest levels. Some personal email isn’t getting through.

Unfortunately, right now since the conficker worm came out around April fools the ISPs have had their spam filters set on the highest settings possible.  This means ISPs have their lasers set to kill and nuke.  No questions are asked many e-mails are just nuked outright or sent to the spam folder.  So keep this in mind when you’re doing your e-mailing especially to your e-mail list right now.

So here’s some best practices for the time being:

– Only one link per e-mail
–Take out your sig. file that has your twitter link in it because that counts as the second link
– Here’s a cool resource to see if a domain is blacklisted.  If so your e-mail containing it will be blocked

Just click on the appropriate letter the domain starts with, then hit ctrl + F in your Firefox browser and type in the first few letters of the domain so Firefox will search it out.  If it doesn’t find it you’re not on this list.  There are other lists but this is a good quick check for you.

I did a little test the other day with my good friend Chris Lang which didn’t start out as a test.  I simply wanted to send him an e-mail with a link to a twitter application that can tell you when users are online tweeting.  You just type in the twitter username in questions and it gives you all the times when they’ve Tweeted and the times their most active so you can be fairly certain they’re online using twitter during that time and you can send your tweets out during those times. This gives them the highest chance of seeing your tweets before it gets buried in the avalanche of other tweets from other people they’re following.

Unfortunately this domain seems to be on some black list and therefore I was attempting to send it from my Gmail to his Gmail and also his key Web data domain and it was bouncing back to me undeliverable.  At first we couldn’t figure out why  and we started to get to the bottom of it when we ran the domain through a checker.

Of course none of this has been publicly confirmed nor will the ISPs do so.  It’s just the result of a little test I did yesterday and Chris’s insider information on what he knows about e-mail since he’s got his website e-mail delivery Jedi.
